Irish dancing is now viewed as a sport, especially with the mastery that dancers show at the World Championships. Irish dancers are quite simply athletes. Therefore, there are obvious health benefits that correspond with Irish dancing.
The dances that are in the traditional Ceilidh (figure) style are a great for aerobic exercise. However, it’s the traditional step dances which require the most amount of energy, skill and technique.
Irish dancers are now looking at strength training, Yoga and Pilates style movements to help with performance. Which has been incorporated into dance classes.
